Cognos HR is expanding our HR Consulting team! We are a Chicago-based HR services (PEO) and consulting firm that helps startups, nonprofits and small businesses support their employee and people operations. We provide HR software, payroll services, employee benefits and consultative HR support to hundreds of organizations around the country.

The HR Consultant Role:

Our Human Resources Consultants are true business partners for our clients. Our clients rely on our HR consultants to be highly engaged in both the strategic and day-to-day aspects of their business acting as the liaison between payroll, benefits, and other key HR deliverables. Candidates will be expected to have excellent communication skills, the ability to manage a variety of projects and create efficient workflows for managing client needs. This is a hybrid role and client onsite presence may be required when requested. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Developing strong working relationships with a variety of clients and stakeholders

  • Crafting a strategic HR plan that aligns to the client’s business goals

  • Providing HR policy guidance and interpretation

  • Identifying gaps and proactively helping manage risk

  • Providing comprehensive HR support, which includes pre-employment and new hire processing, on-boarding and termination, I-9 verification, updates to employee handbooks, benefit guides, exit interviews, background checks, and HRIS data entry

  • Offering counsel on all aspects of HR, including job descriptions, compensation and performance management

  • Overseeing employee benefits programs and annual open enrollment for your clients 

  • Interpreting and staying up to date on Federal, State and Local employment laws including but not limited to FLSA, ADA, HIPAA, FMLA, Civil Rights Act

  • Commuting to client worksites when/if required

Mindset:

  • Collaborative, consultative, critical thinking, problem solving 

  • Comfortable interacting with owners, C-suite, new employees and everyone in between

  • Proactive, enthusiastic and thoughtful approach to client service

  • No micromanaging. You will run your client book of business

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 4+ years HR experience 

  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification preferred

  • Excellent communication, time management and project management skills 

  • Strong business ethics and the ability to maintain confidentiality for client matters

  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Powerpoint, Word, Excel)

  • Experience with HRIS and payroll platforms preferred.

  • Knowledge of the PEO industry is preferred

The Role:

At CognosHR, we're passionate about helping small businesses and non-profit organizations grow and succeed. We’re looking for a Business Development Representative who is eager to learn, take ownership and play a key role in our organizational growth. You will have the opportunity to work closely with our leadership team and develop your skills and expertise as a sales professional.

In this role you will:

  • Identify potential leads through research, cold calls, and lead lists.

  • Update and maintain prospect information and sales stages in our CRM.

  • Set appointments and schedule meetings with prospective clients.

  • Work with other members of our team to create and deliver sales presentations and proposals.

  • Meet and exceed weekly outreach and appointment setting quotas.

  • Write, test and analyze email templates for prospecting.

  • Build, nurture and maintain relationships with prospects by providing ongoing education and valuable touchpoints.

  • Discover ways in which we help our clients and develop creative ways to convey our value proposition to new prospects.

  • Collaborate and share feedback with our content and marketing team.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of prospecting and lead generation or similar experience preferred.

  • Excellent prospecting skills, including the ability to quickly learn how to utilize use digital tools and conduct useful online research.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of  a team

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

  • Strong writing and creative problem solving skills.

  • Must be comfortable - and ideally thrive on - conducting cold calls and emails.

  • Strong work ethic and be adaptable to change.

  • Good listening skills

  • Eagerness to learn

  • Think like a business owner, demonstrate motivation, take initiative, and work with a positive attitude.

Part-Time Payroll Specialist

Cognos HR is expanding our amazing payroll team!
We are a Chicago-based HR services, PEO, and consulting firm that helps startups, small, and midsize businesses grow. We are searching for a part-time, payroll specialist. The ideal candidate would have sufficient payroll experience to ensure accurate processing, and review on the entire payroll cycle for multiple clients.   

With offices in downtown Chicago and Oakbrook Terrace, Cognos HR is a small but mighty group of HR and business experts, passionate about growing our clients’ business, and helping their employees develop and succeed.

Duties and Responsibilities to include:

  • Maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating and entering data.

  • Update payroll records by entering pay changes, job titles, department/division transfers

  • Is able to communicate payroll information by answering questions and requests

  • Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely

  • Reconcile payroll prior to current transmission and validate confirmed reports

  • Understand proper multi-state and local taxation


Qualifications:

  • 4 - 6 years’ experience processing multi-state payrolls

  • Working knowledge of payroll best practices

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations

  • Strong work ethic and team player

  • Must have outstanding organizational skills

  • Strong PC skills including proficiency in Excel
